TDG invests £3m in chemical centre

TDG has invested £3 million in a 25-acre chemical logistics centre on the Wilton International complex at Teesside, consolidating all of the company’s north-east England operations onto one site.

The facility offers 60,000 sq ft of high bay warehousing, handling capability for bulk powders and liquids and integration with TDG’s ADR network for packed chemical distribution.

The company will also operate engineering workshops from the facility to maintain its vehicles and trailers, as well as those from other companies.

TDG also has an 11-acre container park on the same site, which can handle 2,000 containers at a time, with lifting equipment for up to 38 tonnes and 20, 30 and 40 ft boxes.

The new site is located less than a mile from the soon to be expanded deep sea container port Teesport, which will see a £300 million investment.

Colin Rutherford, UK operations director at TDG, said: “Our north-east customers needed logistics solutions to let them take full advantage of the new port capacity and routes.  So our investment in warehousing, distribution and a complete range of added value services from bagging and drumming to silo evacuation and breaking bulk, will mean we’re fully geared to meet our customers’ strategic needs.”

The port is home to global chemical manufacturers such as Invista, Artenius, Croda, Sabic and Dow.
