DHL expands clinical trials logistics service

DHL has doubled the number of its global depots for its Clinical Trials Logistics service. There are now 16 depots including India, China, Panama, Canada, USA, Chile, Argentina and Lebanon enabling it to provide service across 64 countries.

Chris Tierney, director of the Clinical Trials Logistics service at DHL Supply Chain, said: "Clinical research is becoming increasingly global and so is the demand for clinical trials logistics. We are confident that we can play a key role in the further globalisation of clinical trials to help accelerate the discovery of new and groundbreaking treatments."

By doubling the number of clinical trial depots, DHL has increased its capacity to support global clinical research projects, including so-called "mega-trials" in the pharmaceutical and vaccine industries. All the clinical trial depots are working to global industry quality standards. Further depots, such as a Middle East multi-market hub, may be added to the network if demand arises.

Sony improves flexibility at Australian facility

Sony Australia and Sony Computer Entertainment Australia have combined operations at a new purpose-built facility run by DHL Supply Chain.

The 20,000 sq m warehouse, based at Erskine Park in Sydney, is designed to improve efficiencies for Sony by consolidating its consumer electronics, broadcast and professional and PlayStation products at the same location.

Nic Foster, general manager of Business Operations for Sony Australia, said: “The new DHL facility will provide Sony Australia with greater flexibility in managing fluctuations in the demand for warehousing.”

“As a business, this will further strengthen our supply chain and allow us to adapt to the needs of our retail partners across the country. The inclusion of Sony Computer Entertainment in this facility will result in material and practical benefits for both our businesses in the areas of operational efficiency, freight optimisation and customer service.”
