Top supply chain of 2010 revealed

Primark has taken the overall winner award in the European Supply Chain Excellence wards 2010, seeing off strong competition from Procter & Gamble and BSkyB which came second and third respectively.

Gordon Colborn, chairman of the judging panel said: “Primark are setting the standards in the sector and are out to ‘out-Wal-mart’ Wal-mart in the supply chain.”

He pointed out that Primark runs a £2bn supply chain with just eight people. “Their turnaround times are quite incredible – their supply chain is set up in such a way that products on the catwalk for London Fashion Week today will be in the store the following week.”

Primark’s supply chain director Martin White professed himself “gobsmacked” at the result. “The retail side has been winning a lot of acclaim so it’s great that the supply chain side is now getting recognised too.”

The Awards, which are organised by Supply Chain Standard in partnership with PRTM, were presented at a glittering dinner at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on 18th November.
