Clarks calls on Knapp for US shoe distribution centre

Shoe supplier Clarks has enlisted Knapp to supply material handling systems at its new logistics facility in Hanover, Pennsylvania.

The 451,000 sq ft new distribution centre will be located directly opposite the company’s current facility, and Clarks expects to occupy the new site by the end of the year.

Knapp will install its OSR Shuttle system, for goods-to-person picking, buffering, storage and sequencing. The facility will be capable of handling up to 50 million pairs of shoes annually to support growing demand from customers and retailers in the US.

This follows Knapp’s installation of logistics systems at Clarks’ headquarters in Street, Somerset, in 2005. That system has been upgraded several times since by Knapp and continues to be maintained by a resident team of Knapp engineers.
