A scheduled strike by transport workers in Belgium today, 30th January, threatens knock on disruption throughout Europe.

The strike is in protest at Belgian austerity measures and has been called to coincide with an EU summit.

The strike is supported by the International Transport Workers Federation. General secretary David Cockroft said: “On Monday in Belgium, transport stops. Planes, trains and ports will all be affected.”

Inchcape Shipping Services says that it has been unofficially informed that terminals will close from 6am on the 30th to 6am on the 31st. It also anticipates that dockers, pilots, tugboats and locks operators will be involved, and that roadblocks with strike pickets will occupy all access roads to the ports.
