Sony DADC has began a major investment programme centred on its Enfield distribution centre in response to customer ordering trends shifting from bulk buying to ordering little and often, based on next day delivery.

In doing so, the company aims to create a leaner supply chain designed to support increased outbound volumes.

The investment includes the creation of an additional 1,800 sq m mezzanine floor within the distribution centre, 8,000 carton live flow rack locations and 800 metres of “box to man” conveyor system.

Sony DADC has also implemented energy saving lighting throughout the plant in order to reduce the facility’s carbon footprint.

Prior to the investment, the Enfield site offered 16,800 sq m of floor area, 18 loading bays, FACT accredited secure storage, radio frequency on goods in, replenishment to pick face, computerised inventory management and intelligent Knapp conveyor systems.

The centre serves more than 50 clients in the entertainment industry, delivering to some 15,000 addresses.

The investment also sees the implementation of new workflow processes, including new picking processes and IT enhancements.
