The latest survey in Accenture’s research series that tackles the topic of global fulfillment has been launched this week. Entitled “Where cost meets control: Applying global fulfillment to enable high performance,” the report assesses the views of 269 supply chain executives to obtain insight into the extent and direction of fulfillment operations and strategy within their organizations. The survey focused on understanding three major aspects of fulfillment:

  • What are the factors driving changes in supply chain and network strategy?
  • What is the anticipated and achieved value from global logistics operations?
  • What are the trends in off-shored and/or outsourced logistics operations?

The survey findings support our view of fulfillment mastery: Companies that design their global supply chain network and align their offshore or outsourcing activities can achieve competitive advantages and high performance, converting a changing landscape into opportunities for control and cost savings.

The survey talks about the effect of global fulfilment on:

  • Shaping global operations: Product availability and customer service levels are key concerns across industries, but companies are also facing an increased squeeze on margins and a drive to reduce cost of goods sold.
  • Maximizing offshore operations: Although the majority of companies have offshore logistics operations, they lack of confidence in their performance and are not fully realizing the potential benefits.
  • Optimizing outsourcing: Outsourced services are becoming extremely commoditized: 3PLs are delivering no more than is contracted, and shippers want to improve their span of control.
