Achilles, which monitors and evaluates suppliers on behalf of major organisations, has got government backing for its carbonReduction programme.

The Environment Agency has approved the CEMARS certification standard for the Achilles carbonReduction programme as an early action metric in the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme.

All companies looking to gain an Early Action Metric (measure giving recognition for energy reductions and influencing League Table Performance) will have to do so by June 2011.

CEMARS (Certified Emissions Measurement and Reduction Scheme) certification removes the cost of duplication for companies committed to ISO-certification as well as regulatory compliance.

By attaining CEMARS certification, customers will have verified information that can be submitted with confidence for their CRC reporting and with no additional work or cost, have the opportunity to achieve the Early Action Metric.

Achilles says this could deliver significant financial benefits to successful companies. Furthermore, for companies that operate globally, they can apply CEMARS to all operations, which will fulfil UK legislative requirements on carbon consumption while being in line with emerging international standards.
